Can we Trust it when it says Organic?

In February, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a report citing a company in southern China’s ZhongShan district for falsifying an organic food certificate and seeking to export their non-organic soybeans, buckwheat and millet as organic products. The fake certification was brought to the USDA’s attention when French organic certifying company Ecocert contacted USDA officials.

This is a portion of a blog I read on another website.  Please click the link below to read the rest of the article.

This is so scary to me.  The price of Organic Foods are so much higher, so how do we know what we are buying?  Do we take the chance and just trust?  I actually think we are better safe than sorry.  But does anyone know of a better way?

What is Adrenal Fatigue? Can we Avoid it? Can we Stop it?

Your Adrenals are endocrine glands that sit right above your kidneys and are responsible for releasing hormones, mainly in response to stress.

Adrenal Fatigue is simply tired adrenals.  And when your adrenals are tired well so are you!  The hormones that the adrenal produces pretty much regulate all the functions of your body, for example your thyroid and sex hormones.  But what stands out is they produce hormones that influence your ability to metabolize fat, regulate blood sugar and deal with stress.

In today’s world our daily lives put a demand on your adrenal system far beyond what they can produce.  So the symptoms you are feeling are exactly what’s happening to your adrenals.  If you feel great, you know your adrenals are working properly!

We all experience normal “stress factors” in our lives.  It’s called living and they don’t have to necessarily be negative.  But they are the continual little things that are a wakeup call that we need to take care of our adrenals and give them a little tender loving care before they give up on us.

Our adrenals are always responding to what’s going on on the outside, so they can figure out what kind of physical response that you need from them.

Do you need an adrenaline surge for an emergency situation?

Do you need more cortisol which tells your body to hang on to fat because you starved yourself all day and you might need it later on to live off of?

Does your glucose need to be regulated to give you the insulin surge you need because you just ate a piece of Red Velvet Cake?

What causes Adrenal Fatigue?

There are numerous reasons your adrenal glands go into overdrive and get tired, but the common denominator is stress.  Taking steps to reduce stress in your life is the Golden Ticket to Healthy living and adrenal restoration.

What are the symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue?

Remember Adrenal Fatigue does just what it says.  Makes you fatigued.  But there are other symptoms as well.

  • The inability to cope with stress
  • Anxiety attacks
  • Feeling tired all the time or very frequently
  • Low Blood Sugar
  • Low Blood Pressure
  • Feeling dizzy upon rising from a horizontal position
  • Startle easily
  • An increase or severity of allergic reactions
  • Weight gain specifically around the belly
  • Sensitivity to light or night blindness
  • Erratic Sleep patterns – up all night, sleep all day, 2nd winds when you should be sleeping.
  • Tough time getting or staying asleep
  • Low Sex Drive
  • Frequently getting sick or the inability to recover quickly.
  • Exercise makes you feel worse not better
  • Erratic food cravings.

What can be done about Adrenal Fatigue?

Taking the right supplements is the first step to adrenal repair and very important.  Your body needs all the minerals, nutrients, and enzymes that unfortunately are not in our nutritionally bankrupt foods.  The right nutrients are important for adrenal support and improving poor adrenal function.  There are so many supplements on the market, so be careful and make sure you choose a brand that are high in quality and come from clean superior sources.

This is what I suggest:

Vitamin C is essential to the production of adrenal glands and its hormones, and is used up very quickly by the body when it is under stress.  Adequate vitamin C supplementation is vital to improving not only adrenal function but needed to saturate body tissues such as the brain, heart and liver.  It also plays an important role in the body’s ability to burn fat for fuel; it helps the biosynthesis of carnitine. Also decreased carnitine levels lead to increased fatigue during exercise which leads to exercise intolerance.

Magnesium is another essential supplement for producing adrenal hormones.  There is almost always a deficiency when you have adrenal fatigue. Magnesium at bedtime will help you relax and sleep better, alleviate heart palpitations, and relieve the cramping during your menstrual cycle .

GABA while not directly affecting your adrenal glands, can be a valuable part of your adrenal fatigue recovery.  This amino acid helps to reduce anxiety and relax mentally and is actually beneficial in assisting weight loss.

Healthy Lifestyle tips for improved adrenal function

One of your adrenal glands stress response hormone is cortisol.  Any time your body detects stress, it releases more cortisol.

Sleep depreivation causes your body to release MORE cortisol.  In a perfect world your level of cortisol is highest in the morning and then decreases by night.  But with additional emotional or physical stress it will release more throughout the day.

Too much cortisol in your system at night causes you to wake up frequently during the night and feel tired in the morning.  This can lead to a vicious cycle causing more stress because of the lack of sleep.  More stress means more cortisol!

Forcing oursleves to carry on while we are tired increases adrenal fatigue.  As difficult as it may be, try to sleep when you are tired, listen to your bodys rhythms.  It’s trying to tell you something.

Should I Eat or Avoid certain foods?

Eating high quality nutritious foods are important to maintaining adrenal function and keeping blood sugar levels stable.

A few simple strategies are:

Do not eat processed foods or imitation anything.  For example “I can’t believe it’s not butter” Ask yourself this; What can you believe it is then? Stay away from artificial sweeteners.  These things are nothing but chemicals and do not feed our body.

Stay away from caffeine.  If you are a big coffee drinker gradually wean yourself off instead of going cold turkey.  Caffeine withdrawals can add stress to your adrenals. In addition caffeine puts your body in an acidic state which is where disease loves to thrive.  It also dehydrates you.

Stay away from white sugar and flour.  They are simple carbohydrates and require a greater release of insulin, which actually stresses your adrenals by making them work hard to stabilize your blood sugar levels.  Always chose whole or multi-grain.

Stay away from Alcohol.  Alcohol is a sugar.

Snack frequently and avoids going for long hour not eating.  A good rule of thumb is always put a healthy low calorie snack in your mouth every two hours.

Most breakfast foods are fruits and cereals/breads/grains.  Most are simple sugars that will spike your blood sugar and cause your adrenals to work harder.  A complex carb mixed with a little protein and fat is perfect.  This takes longer to metabolize and doesn’t cause that spike.  A quick and easy breakfast option is a whey protein meal shake.

Use Sea Salt instead of table salt and do not limit your salt intake. Sodium is absolutely critical for adrenal function, and in adrenal fatigue sufferers it is usually low.  Sea Salt has an abundance of trace minerals that table salt is void of.

Increase your intake of water.  I can’t stress this enough.  Water is the elixir of life.  It is essential for every single function of your body even the ones that make hormones like your adrenal glands.  Most of the population walk around in a dehydrated state and do not even know it.  This leads to malfunctions of our bodily systems which are then mistakenly treated with medication, which further adds stress to the body.  And all you needed was water!

Fats are good in your diet, and much needed especially the right kinds of fat.  We need fats and cholesterols to make hormones.  Good fats are olive oil, real butter, grape seed and coconut oil.

Life is about balance.  Take the time to honor your body, remember if you do not take care of yourself how can you take care of the ones you love.

 Remember………

7 Easy Steps to Keep Weight Off at A Summer BBQ!

It’s Memorial Day the unofficial start of summer!  Don’t gain back all those lost lbs!  Here are a few tips that will keep you lean and mean for the summer especially with all those Barbeques!

1.     Choose low-fat meats like chicken or turkey or trim the fat.  When marinating stay away from high calorie BBQ and bottled dressings or sauces. Olive oil, lemon juice with a little white wine and spices makes a great healthy marinade.

2.      Stay away from the Mayonnaise; side dishes like high calorie potato and pasta salads.  These dishes pack on the fat.  You can make delicious pasta salads, by using Whole Wheat pasta and mixing chopped veggies and tomatoes with a garlic and oil dressing.  Watch out for the baked beans, they contain loads of sugar.

3.      Portion control, is important, choose a small plate.  Also, stop eating way before you are full.  Because if you are still eating when that full feeling comes on it’s too late and you have stuffed yourself.  Eat slowly, don’t inhale, it takes 20 minutes for your brain to know that your stomach is full.  Stay away from second helpings.

4.      Drink two bottles of water 30 minutes before you start eating.  Put the water in a wine glass with ice, a great way to mingle.  Your stomach will be happy with the excess fluid to help digest your food properly, plus it will help you feel full so as not to over eat.

5.      When going for dessert I know it’s hard to stay away from the cake or ice cream, so only have a bite if you need to taste.  But the better alternative is fruit.  You can also drizzle cinnamon spiced honey and use yogurt as a dip.  Delicious.

6.      BBQ those vegetables and put them on skewers.  Sliced Zucchini sprinkled with garlic salt and black pepper is one of my favorite side dishes.

7.      Stay away from the beer, very fattening and makes you bloat.   Wine spritzers are a great choice, and refreshing.

Hope this helps have a great holiday weekend.

Flying and Radiation Whats the Risk?

As a Flight Attendant with an erratic schedule I am always conscious about keeping healthy.  The new cry out there by the general public is the use of body scanners that emit radiation doses.  What people really don’t know is the health risk that flying itself gives.  Flying gives you more radiation exposure than the body scanners ever will.  Two minutes flying at 30,000 feet will give you as much radiation as a body scan! And by the time you are at a normal cruising altitude of 39,000 feet the total radiation is much greater than what it is at sea level.  Flying in the upper thinner portion of the atmosphere increases your radiation exposure and doubles with every 6,000 feet of altitude!

For people who don’t fly that much I don’t think this is a concern and remember you can always opt out of the body scanner which is your right.  But this can put you at the mercy of a full body pat down, which can be a very unpleasant experience.  But for Frequent Flyers and Flight Crews who fly commercial airlines at high altitudes, we are subjected to higher than normal radiation levels from the sun and cosmic rays. And in the event of a solar flare radiation is even worse. This raises a real health risk because we are exposed to more radiation than any other occupation out there!

It is amazing to me why our employers do not educate us about this risk.  European carriers make it mandatory that Flight Crews be educated about cosmic radiation.  And also I wonder why we are not monitored as most health professionals who frequently deliver x-rays and cancer treatments.  It only takes about six or seven trips from New York to Narita Japan to exceed the general public limits.  That is more than any health professional gets that delivers x-rays!

Everyone is exposed to some radiation every day.  Cosmic radiation which comes from the sun is a form of Ionizing radiation; charged particles that go through our bodies all the time which unbalance us.  But we are protected by most of them because the earth’s atmosphere absorbs much of this and deflects them before they reach us.  So the higher you are the less atmosphere to protect you.  And too much exposure can lead to tissue and genetic damage that cause cancer and other diseases.

We are all aware that the sun’s ultraviolet radiation can damage skin cells which may lead to skin cancers, but at a high energy it becomes ionizing radiation which can lead to chemical reactions inside cells and break DNA chains which mutate the cells and become cancerous.  If it occurs in a sperm or egg it can result in birth defects which is why pregnant women should never be subjected to x-rays.

There is a tremendous amount of evidence that female flight attendants have higher rates of breast cancer then the rest of the population.  We also must take into consideration that our life style of constantly crossing time zones can throw off our hormones, messes with our serotonin and dopamine which can also play a big part in causing cancer.

Luckily for most flight personnel, we don’t have to go through the body scanners because who wants that additional dose of radiation…  But our Frequent Flyers are not so lucky.  Although the machines they say are a very low level and not like an X-ray at all, experts claim the machines are not harmful.  I believe it’s still too early to tell.

But although we are not going through the body scanners we are still at a higher risk.  Robert Barish who is a physicist and author of “The Invisible Passenger: Radiation Risks For People Who Fly” says crewmembers are exposing themselves to more radiation than almost any other occupation out there.

So how much flying is too much?

There are two organizations “The U.S. National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements” and the “International Commission on Radiological Protection”.  They both have established the radiation tolerance for air crews and the general public.  A week’s worth of natural background radiation is about 2.4 mSv a year.  The group goes on to say that one single long international flight will expose you to a weeks’ worth of natural background radiation.  But airline employees definitely exceed the groups recommend limits.

What can we do?  Well we certainly cannot quit or stop flying, first it’s just what we do, its our job and second its the way the general public gets around. But the price to pay could be our health.  So how can we protect our health?

Since I obviously travel regularly here is what I do to keep my health while flying and being exposed to radiation.  Remember the highest mountain in the world is 28,000 feet yet most of us think nothing of spending hours at 35,000 feet, an altitude that we humans were never designed to be exposed to.  And in addition to radiation exposure while flying, radiation and radioactivity are everywhere, in the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.  Our toxic overload just keeps getting greater.

  •  Cleansing – We can bind radioactive particles and flush them out of our bodies.  If not they will stay there and slowly work at destroying your health.  We will succumb to unexplained symptoms of fatigue, weekend immune system and all sorts of conditions and diseases. Cleansing has been around for centuries. There are many cleanses out there, so be careful in choosing the right one.
  •
  •  Regular Checkups – Because of the hazards of frequently flying regular checkups can catch problems early.
  •
  •  Baths to soak in at home to pull out all the accumulations of toxins in our body.  This accumulated waste can impair our lymph system which relies on physical movement and sweating to rid itself of waste.  Soaking in alkaline water will help rebalance your body’s internal ph and relieve cellular inflammation.

Salt and Soda soak – The best bath to soak in is 2 cups of dead sea salt, kosher salt and 2 cups of baking soda.  Add to bath water when 2/3 full and let it dissolve before entering.

Seaweed bath soak – Seaweed has a strong and powerful ionic charge that draws toxins out of bodily cells. You can purchase seaweed soaks at your local health food store, or right here at the Health Hub – Bath Salts and Soaks.

Epsom Salt Soak – This is my favorite because the magnesium in Epsom salt brings relief to stress and tension, so it’s the perfect soak after a long flight.  Not only that but the magnesium assists in neutralizing and eliminating chemical toxins.

  •   Magnesium helps to eliminate absorbed radiation and toxins, a great source of magnesium are dark leafy vegetables.
  •
  • Foods rich in Pectin – Pectin binds to radioactive and chemical residues and removes them from the body.  It acts as a natural chelating agent.  Apples, guavas, plums, gooseberries, oranges and other citrus fruits.  Be sure to wash all fruits. There is truth the the saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”
  •
  •  Flood your bodies with the nutrients it needs to safeguard your health. We need foods that will build up your immune system and help you recover from the damage caused by radiation exposure.  We need food substances that will bind and flush contaminates right from your body.    Health professionals have signified certain super greens and super fruits that infuse the body with phytonutrients to protect your health.  Phytonutrients enhance your body’s natural detoxification pathways, which enable health and longevity.  You might have heard of spirulina(one of the richest sources of vitamins, minerals, iron, protein and a host of other energizing and detoxifying nutrients) chlorella (which is a powerful detoxifier to safeguard against pollutants, chemicals and pesticides) and wheat grass,( contains dozens of minerals, including high concentrations of potassium, calcium, and magnesium) for example, which are super greens.  Mangosteen, Star Fruit and Acai Berry are powerhouses of nutrition, too – which is why they’re called super fruits.  These super foods can be your essential line of defense against environmental toxicity.

Fly when the sun is down.  Most of the radiation is from the sun, so at night the earth is blocking most of it.  You don’t get sunburned at night right?  Well the same with radiation exposure.  This may cost us some sleep, but for the frequent flyer it may be less expensive.

  •
  •  Astaxanthin is a powerful fat soluble carotenoid that will protect your cells.  Studies show that there is an improvement in people’s ability to tolerate sun exposure.  It can be found in fish, seafood and algae.   Life Extension a company I highly recommend also has Astaxanthin.
  •
  • Earthing/Grounding Pad – EMF’s and other electrical interference can disrupt your bodies bio-electrical communications causing weak electrical currents within your body.  Wi-Fi only worsens the problem.  Traveling on airplanes is a suspected cause of weakening bio-electric currents, as it disrupts the natural ground your body would receive when you’re connected naturally to the earth through your feet.  An earthing pad, also known as a grounding pad is a great for your seat or jump seat.  They are also ideal for your car.  This can also be found in our Health Hub.
  •
  • Drink Water Not Soda – Sodas serve to synergistically worsen damage from radiation.
  • Walk Around on Long Flights – This is a no brainer for us Flight Attendants.  But passengers especially the elderly need to move or walk around.  Being immobile on a plane increases the risk that blood clots will develop and then lodge in the lungs (pulmonary embolism).  To reduce this risk, avoid alcohol, wear loose clothing and avoid crossing your legs.  Of course we cannot have 230 people walking around the aircraft but for a certain few this is a necessity.  It’s better than an medical emergency on the airplane.
  •
  • Eat Well and Avoid Junk Food – Unfortunately most of your options at hotels and airports are junk or processed foods.  My advice is to avoid these altogether.  This goes for the in flight meals that are nothing more than processed foods!  Junk food is loaded with salt, sugar and will impair your immune system.  The truth is that fasting is much better than eating junk food.  Fasting does less to impair your body’s immune system. Pack your carry on with healthy snacks, choose organic raw almonds, healthy bars or protein shakes!  Easy to do on the airplane and you will feel so much better.  Choose carefully and make sure your snacks are organically based and not full of sugar.
  • Antioxidants – Most of the damage from radiation exposure is from oxidative damage which can lead to cancers and illnesses.  The best preventive measure is to increase antioxidants or “free radical scavengers” in your body.

In todays day and age, it is almost impossible to avoid toxicity in any form.  So lets be vigilant with our health, flood our bodies with nutrients, cleanse and detox.  Lets give our bodies a fighting chance and help it be the miracle it was meant to be.

The Importance of Detoxification and Cleansing

It is not a secret that we live in a toxic world.  There are toxins in the food we eat the water we drink the air we breathe.  One of the secrets to anti-aging and good health is the knowledge of how to detoxify our bodies and protect it from our toxic environment.  Why?  The more toxins you are exposed to, the more your immune system is compromised.  You feel bad and age fast.

Cleansing and detoxification have been around for centuries.  A full body cellular cleanse is essential but the main organs involved in cleansing the body are the bowels, kidneys, lungs, liver and blood.

Toxins and Impurities

A toxin or impurity is anything that can harm the cells or the function of the cells in your body.  They can cause disease or irreversible damage.  The body is a natural healer and cleanser, but once our system becomes overloaded our bodies cannot keep up and toxins begin to accumulate.  Our bodies wreak havoc on our normal processes causing allergies, sensitivity and addictions.

Toxins can be anything from pesticides, herbicides, food additives, drugs, medications and even secondary smoke. About 30,000 synthetic substances are produced on a commercial scale and hardly any are ever tested for toxicity.

The molecular structures of toxins are very carcinogenic and can affect new cell growth and our immune systems.  The World Health Organization has said that in over 60 to 80 percent of cancer cases, long term exposure to environmental toxic chemicals are the cause.

Types of Toxins & Impurities

There are several different types of toxins.  Heavy metal toxins can be lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, nickel and aluminum.  These metals like to accumulate in the brain, kidneys and impair the immune system.  The most common heavy metal poisoning is from lead, mercury and aluminum, released into our atmosphere and deposited on our crops and soil and into our water supply.

Heavy metal toxicity has been linked to Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and severe neurological disorders.

Other sources can be lead in pesticides, aluminum in cooking utensils, cookware, deodorants, soda cans and even antacids. Mercury in contaminated fish and dental fillings are also toxic.

It is no secret that severe toxicity can lead to death, so be vigilant because the early signs of heavy metal poisoning can easily be attributed to other diseases. Such symptoms can be headaches, fatigue, muscle pain, indigestion, tremors, impaired memory and distorted thinking.

The liver is the major detoxification center of the body. It is the body’s filter and removes foreign substances and wastes from the blood. It reduces toxins into compounds that the body can safely remove through the kidneys, skin, bowels and lungs. Some of the toxins that are filtered by the liver include alcohol, herbicides, and pesticides.  The symptoms of liver toxicity can include psychological and neurological illnesses such as depression, headache, mental confusion, mental illness, abnormal nerve reflexes and tingling in the hands.

Optimal liver function and health is the key for good health.

Toxins can also be produced by unwanted bacteria and yeast in the stomach.  Once absorbed these toxins can cause a complete breakdown of bodily functions. These toxins have been linked to many diseases including, diabetes,  Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, liver disease, pancreatitis, allergies, asthma and immune disorders.

In addition, antibodies formed against microbial molecules can react with the body’s own cellular structures.  This can cause many autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, scleroderma and psoriasis just to name a few.

Is it necessary to Detox or Cleanse?

It would be wonderful if there was a place on our planet free from toxins and pollutants.  But the sad fact is there is not.  Our air is polluted our water is full of chemicals mainly chorine, our clothes are made up of artificial fabrics full of chemicals, our lotions and shampoos contain chemicals.  We can never fully eliminate these chemicals unless we undergo a detoxification process. It is one of the best ways to remain healthy in a polluted and toxic environment.

Our bodies are miracles they are a natural cleansing and self healing machine.  But in todays over toxic and nutritional deficient world, our bodies need all the help it can get. Cleansing and flooding the body with nutrients is the key to maintain our health.

A good detoxification program can make all the difference in keeping the body functioning.  It may even keep many diseases at bay.  Cleansing along with a healthy diet is an essential to anti-aging and allowing the body to be the miracle it was meant to be.

Symptoms of toxic overload

  • Headaches or back pain
  • Joint pain or arthritis
  • Memory loss
  • Depression or lack of energy
  • Brittle nails and hair
  • Coated tongue or bad breath
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Psoriasis
  • Allergies
  • Crave sweets or alcohol
  • Hormone imbalance

Benefits of Cleansing and Detoxification

  • Clean digestive tract, clear of accumulated waste and fermenting bacteria
  • Liver, kidney and blood purification
  • Mental clarity is enhanced
  • Reduced dependency on  sugar, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and drugs
  • Hormonal system is balanced
  • Immune system is stimulated

As you can see most everyone needs to detox and cleanse their bodies.  Especially those who have poor eating habits, excessive stress, and are exposed to an excess of environmental toxins such as flight crews.

Help your body be the miracle it was meant to be.

The Skinny on Artificial Sweeteners

It should make sense, cut calories, and lose weight.  So substituting a no-calorie alternative for sugar should save calories therefore leading to weight loss.

But do these diet foods really help you lose weight?

Think about it, with all the sugar substitutes out there why are obesity rates on the rise?  It should be as simple as reduce portion sizes, eat more fruits and vegetables and exercise, but is that really all it takes?
It’s actually much more complicated than that.  It’s called over processed foods and chemicals, which our bodies are not equipped to deal with.  But let’s concentrate on the many chemicals that makeup artificial sweeteners.

There is now evidence that artificial sweeteners are linked to weight gain and make it harder for people to shed fat.  For one, the sweetness confuses your body into thinking it has sugar, it tastes like sugar to your body and actually
increases cravings and appetite.  Studies have also shown that they actually change the body’s natural ability to regulate calorie intake, making it easier to overeat!  Think about it, do you really need to drink the “diet soda” while eating 4 slices of pizza or more?  Watch out for chewing gum, they nearly all contain artificial sweeteners and constantly chewing them will lead to increased hunger.

Also, remember the hype, just because something is advertised as Sugar Free doesn’t mean it is good for you or a health food.  It should actually mean stay away!  Because without sugar something has to make up for taste, and usually that means tons of fat, which is tons of calories.  Also many sugar free products
have no nutritional value whatsoever.

Many health issues are associated with these unnatural substances. There is evidence that people who use sugar substitutes are at a higher risk for a myriad of problems such as abdominal fat, high blood pressurea and insulin resistance which put people at risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Sugar substitutes are made up of chemicals linked to cell and DNA damage.  Our bodies are bombarded with an overload of these toxins and chemicals and cannot handle it.

Throw those artificial sweeteners out the window.

So what’s the answer?

Too much sugar natural or otherwise has its own problems but if you have to choose go for the  real unprocessed sugar, a product your body has the ability to deal with (such as molasses or honey) , if your choice was artificial or real refined sugar,  go for the refined sugar, although choices with nutrients are ideal of course.

Wean yourself off this nasty little product and let your taste buds adjust to natural sweet foods. It’s going to be hard at first because you are desensitized to sweetness, and healthy satiating foods such as fruits and vegetables are less sweet.   1 tsp. of sugar won’t even taste sweet to you, because you are used to the high sweetness of artificial products.  But once you do you’ll see the difference and will even begin to taste the “chemical” in the product.

It’s amazing that studies are showing how unhealthy and dangerous these sugar substitutes are leading to a myriad of diseases even cancer, but yet they are approved by the FDA and our government is condoning the sale of poison in our food.

The bottom line is that there is no substitute for eating“real” foods and regular exercise.

For further information you can always check out theDecember 2011 Harvard Health Letter.  Dr. David Ludwig noted obesity researcher explores the possible connection between sugar substitutes and weight gain.
